Here’s an unusual new way to play an adventure game: in Crypt Of The NecroDancer, every step you take and every swing of your weapon has to be in time with the soundtrack.
Keep in time with the music and you’ll fight better, earn more rewards and ultimately find your way out of this vast complex of baddie-packed dungeons. You can even mix things up by adding in your own iTunes tracks. Miss a beat, and you’ll lose all of your momentum.
It’s a pretty bizarre mix of genres but it works, somehow. These dungeons are different every time you play and things get difficult quickly, but when you get in the right flow, NecroDancer feels amazing. When you’re on a roll, moving and attacking beautifully in time with the music, it’s like Zelda: A Link to the Past had been crossbred with DJ Hero.
From it’s beautiful pixel art to its toe-tapping soundtrack, Crypt Of The NecroDancer is off beat indie gaming at its finest. So grab your sword, shield, and a pair of headphones: adventure awaits, and it brought some banging tunes.
