Love Per Square Foot, a breezy new romantic comedy set in Mumbai, is now available worldwide on Netflix. The movie is an entertaining contemporary love story woven around the desire to own a home- unexceptional in most places, but one that can set a person up against great odds in Mumbai.
Sanjay Chaturvedi (Vicky Kaushal), a software engineer who works in a bank in the hope that he will get preferential treatment for a home loan, meets Karina D’souza (Angira Dhar), who works in the bank’s home loan division. They decide to join hands in pursuit of home ownership in Mumbai.
The challenges they then face, and the comedy of errors that ensues when Karina’s staunchly Catholic mother and Sanjay’s vegetarian Hindu family meet, move the plot forward.
Fittingly, the movie features talent that rose to the fore through web series popular among younger audiences. Actor Sumeet Vyas, known for his role in the web series Permanent Roommates, oo-wrote the film with director Anand Tiwari and Asif Ali Beg. Female lead Angira Dhar starred in Y-Film’s Bang Baaja Baaraat.
Ratna Pathak Shah is superb as Karina’s anxious mother faced with municipal eviotion notices in a crumbling building. And don’t miss the fun oameo at the end!
